Wayne
Chambers is an
internationally recognized watercolor artist. He grew up in
Crewe,
Virginia and had a
passion for painting even as a young boy when he could be spotted
painting on cardboard with house paint. His great love for nature
shows, particularly in his more recent
works.
Wayne has
studied fine art throughout his life, including life
drawing, oil painting, and composition at the New York Art Students
League. His style has been nurtured from the experience
of famous painters and teachers, including Thomas Fogerty, Richard Goetz, Hilda Terry, Robert Wade,
Frank Webb, Judy Wagner, Barbara Nechis, Christopher Schink, and
Tony van Hasselt. Before his retirement from 31 years in the
corporate sector, he painted watercolors for the Retail Merchants
Association of Greater Richmond in
Virginia.
In June 2000, Wayne relocated to
Savannah,
Georgia.
Today
Wayne is a
member of the Jekyll Island Art Association, American Watercolor
Society, and Georgia Watercolor Society. He
currently teaches several weeklong workshops in
Savannah
throughout the year as well as workshops for the
Telfair
Museum,
Armstrong
Atlantic
State
University, and a
high school student workshop for the
Savannah
Christian
Academy.
In
2004, Wayne taught
a 12-day watercolor workshop-tour in
Guatemala
and has taught aboard cruise ships throughout the world.
Wayne’s
paintings are highly valued by private collectors and corporations
worldwide. His work can be found in some of the finest
galleries across the
United
States.
A number of
Savannah’s most
influential families have commissioned
Wayne to paint
their homes in his unique style. He was also designated the official
artist for Savannah’s famed
Mercer House from the book and movie Midnight in the
Garden of
Good and
Evil. Wayne received recognition as one of the top
five artists to collect in 2004 by the Arts and Antiques
Magazine in Savannah, and has been featured in Southern
Living Magazine, Better Living television show; and
graces the cover of the Shopping 31401 magazine in
Savannah.
